It’s an underdog story. These are two of the longshots to win March Cheesesteak Madness. I am very happy they are in the tournament. Rocky’s let you step back in time. Rocky’s is where everyone went after the big game at Glenside HS for a milkshake and cheesesteak. McNally lets you go back further in time. You have to use the bathroom in the basement.

Holy Mackerel!! I forgot how good both of these cheesesteaks are. These cheesesteaks couldn’t be more different. I would exhaust my vocabulary trying to describe this match up. I like the video. I hope you do. I am surprised at who won this match.

This match was a roller coaster of emotion for me. Shout out to the very nice couple that asked if I needed any help in The Trappe Tavern parking lot. This match up made me very happy and very sad. I have high expectations for both of these places. One came through with flying colors and the other did not. My apologies to Collegeville Italian Bakery Pizzeria Napoletana, that is a lot for me to type. Collegeville Italian Bakery et al, from now on.
Goombas Pizzaria vs Sly Fox Brewhouse & Eatery

A match up of two places I like. A very good cheesesteak vs a very good place. Goombas has to make a good cheesesteak so people will drive a half hour past civilization. Sly Fox was an early stop on my Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure. It holds a special place in the adventure’s heart. I liked my beer and a portion of the proceeds supported the troops.
Tony G’s Pub & Eatery vs Workhorse Brewing Co

A split decision won this match. 2 places that offer alcohol and indoor seating. Guest Judge Phil loved the atmosphere and people at Tony G’s. We were lucky he made it to the judging. Workhorse Brewing Co makes their own beer cheese and beer mustard. I hope beer cheese is the future.
Don Giovanni’s Classic Bakery vs Verona Pizza

If you watched the contestant videos you probably know how this ends up. I love Don Giovanni’s for all of the wrong reasons. I was concerned about going to Verona Pizza for all the wrong reasons. Black Cherry Old Fashions had a major role in the making of this video. AMY!!
Curly’s Comfort Food vs DaVinci’s Brick Oven Pizzeria

This the third meeting of 2 very good cheesesteaks. Curly’s is a comforting cheesesteak. Big Boys Cheesesteak. It’s perfect for a cold day or when you are trying to add some winter weight. DaVinci’s starts with a DaVinci’s made roll. It is a very well made balanced cheesesteak. I am glad I watched the video, it has a surprise ending.
Johnny’s Pizza Bryn Mawr vs Bubba’s Steaks and Shakes

The Battle of Bryn Mawr!! Before Johnny’s and Bubba’s I don’t think people were flocking to Bryn Mawr to get their cheesesteaks. Now Bryn Mawr could become the nexus of the cheesesteak universe! The good news; competition is good. I think they are catering to different palates. Hopefully they both do well. PS I am still looking forward to trying the Portabello Mushroom cheesesteak (cheese-mushroom??) at Bubba’s.
